Shyft automation for blinds & curtains

Compare rechargeable and 240V motors, understand Matter connectivity, and find practical answers about the LCD remote, charging and warranty. This guide uses Klay’s supplied Shyft documents; confirm the exact motor and controls for your selected product.

Find the right fit

Choosing & fitting

Choose the motor for the application

The supplied Shyft range includes internal tubular blind motors, curtain motors and external blind motors. A motor must match the selected tube or track, load, dimensions and installation environment. A generic motorised choice in Klay’s shop does not identify the brand or approve every motor in the brochure.

Rechargeable battery options use USB-C charging and need accessible charging points. The 240V models need a suitable electrical installation. Ask Klay to identify the motor, power supply, controls and any required electrical work in the quote before purchase.

Matter connectivity and your smart home

The brochure advertises Matter connectivity with Google, Alexa, Apple and SmartThings. The supplied warranty identifies a Matter-over-Thread module. Confirm that the selected motor and firmware support your chosen ecosystem, including the features you want to use.

The brochure’s “no hub required” wording should not be read as a promise that every phone and network can operate the motor without other equipment. You may not need a separate Shyft bridge, but a compatible Matter controller and Thread network are still relevant. Google Home requires a suitable hub; Apple’s local pairing and remote/automation requirements depend on the Apple devices in use. Check the linked current platform guidance before buying equipment.

Daily use of the LCD remote

The supplied remote guide shows open, stop and close controls, up to 16 channels and up to six groups. The LCD indicates the selected channel or group and supported motor position and battery information. A group can control several assigned channels; confirm which window belongs to each channel at handover.

Channel 00 operates all programmed motors. Do not perform programming or resets on that channel. Have the installer set and check the travel limits, then lock the motor settings. The function lock helps avoid accidental changes; it is not certification that the entire window covering is child-safe.

Charging and first checks

For the remote, the supplied guide specifies a 5V/1A USB-C charger and approximately two hours to charge. Fully charge it at initial setup. Those figures describe the remote; they are not a universal charging time or charger specification for every motor.

If a blind does not respond, check the chosen channel, remote charge and motor’s power or charge. Keep its travel path clear. If it runs in the wrong direction, stops in the wrong place or binds, stop and ask Klay for model-specific support. Factory resets, limit deletion and network resets can remove settings and should not be your first troubleshooting step.

Shyft motor specifications

These families are a reference for discussing an installation, not a promise that every listed motor fits every blind, curtain or outdoor screen. Torque, size, load and power requirements must be confirmed for the selected model.

Battery curtain motor
1.2 Nm · USB-C charging · 80 RPM
240V curtain motors
1.2 Nm or 2 Nm · 80 RPM · 3-core cable · top-mounted Molex cable
External battery blind motor
45 mm · 20 Nm · USB-C charging · 12 RPM
External 240V blind motors

Feedback and detection
Bi-directional remote/motor feedback listed; obstacle detection listed for the outdoor motor family

Obstacle detection is listed for the outdoor motor family; it is not a safety rating for an entire screen or awning.

Questions before you order

Frequently asked questions

Does every motorised Klay product include Shyft?

No brand or model is established by a generic motorised selection. The supplied Shyft documents describe an available motor range. Have Klay confirm the exact motor, application and control compatibility in your quote.

Can a battery motor replace electrical wiring?

A compatible rechargeable model can operate without a permanent mains supply to that motor, but it still needs charging access and must suit the load and environment. A 240V selection needs the appropriate electrical installation. Confirm the complete package.

Does Matter mean I only need my phone?

Not in every setup. Matter over Thread requires suitable network support, and the controller, remote access and automation requirements depend on your chosen platform. Check the current Apple or Google guidance and the selected motor’s compatibility before assuming existing equipment is enough.

Will Shyft work with Google, Alexa, Apple or SmartThings?

The brochure advertises those ecosystems. Confirm the selected motor, firmware, supported functions and platform equipment with Klay. This guide does not certify every hub, phone or future platform update.

How many channels and groups does the supplied remote support?

The quick guide allows up to 16 channels and six groups. Channels and group membership are programmed during setup. Channel 00 operates all programmed motors; do not use it for setting changes or resets.

How long does the remote take to charge?

The supplied remote guide says approximately two hours with a 5V/1A USB-C charger. Fully charge it at initial setup. A motor’s charging requirements and interval are separate and depend on its model and use.

Does the child lock make every blind child-safe?

The function lock protects motor settings from accidental changes. It does not establish safety of all cords, tracks or moving parts. Any accessible blind or curtain cords still need their required safety fittings and correct installation.

Should I factory-reset a blind that has stopped responding?

Start by checking the selected channel, charge/power and travel path. Ask Klay for help if it still fails. Factory resets and limit deletion can erase settings and affect several motors if the wrong channel is used.

Is there a single five-year warranty for all Shyft products?

No. The supplied summary lists five years for battery motors including the battery, seven years for 240V AC motors, and two years for remotes and controls. The full warranty conditions and Australian Consumer Law rights also apply.

Does a shorter battery run time always mean a warranty fault?

No fixed recharge interval is promised. Blind size, load, use, signal conditions and gradual battery ageing affect it. Keep usage and charging details and ask Klay to assess a suspected fault; normal capacity loss is distinguished from a defect in the supplied summary.

Does the manufacturer’s parts warranty remove my consumer rights?

No. The additional warranty does not replace Australian Consumer Law guarantees. Contact Klay about a fault and the appropriate assessment and remedy; do not assume parts-only wording decides every entitlement.

Shyft warranty & support

Battery motors
5 years, including the built-in battery for the term
240V AC motors
7 years
Remotes and controls
2 years for handheld and wall controls

This is the supplied Shyft warranty summary, version 1.4, effective 25 August 2026, for motors and controls. It is not a warranty for every Klay blind, fabric, track or installation. Ask for the full Shyft warranty and the selected motor’s specification before purchase.

The summary normally starts the term at the original invoice purchase date. Where installation occurs within 12 months and records are provided, it allows installation-based commencement up to the stated term plus 12 months. Without purchase proof it uses the serial or batch manufacture date. The remaining term can transfer with the property.

The built-in battery is covered for five years; normal gradual capacity loss and changes in time between charges are not automatically defects. There is no fixed recharge interval promised for every blind size and pattern of use.

The stated manufacturer warranty is for parts. Removal, reinstallation, on-site labour, access and freight are not included in that additional warranty. This does not exclude any remedy or cost you are entitled to under Australian Consumer Law. Product loading, power, environment and the full warranty conditions must be checked for the selected motor.

Contact Klay as your retailer or installer first. Keep the invoice, product code, serial number, installation date, application/size and a description with photos or video of the fault. Do not remove a motor or send it away without an agreed assessment and return process.
